Ranger VIII Lunar Surface
Photograph taken of the Lunar surface by Ranger VIII two minutes and fifteen seconds prior to impact.
The picture shows the southwest corner of the Sea of Tranquility and the large flat-bottomed craters Sabine and Ritter. The image covers and area of 77 miles east to west and 67 miles north to south.

Lunar Surface Map
Lunar map showing the Moon's surface compiled from 7,000 photographs taken by the Ranger VIII's six cameras. covering over 900,000 square miles.
The three marks on the map are the impact points of Ranger VI, Ranger VII, and Ranger VIII. The Rangers were NASA's first attempt to take high-resolution photographs of Lunar surfaces. In the moments leading to and immediately before impact, the Ranger cameras would send images back from its six cameras. These images helped to plan Apollo lunar landings.
