Basting, Assembly, & Binding
Assembly of all pieces to form the quilt top neared completion in late February 1994 when Judy Cloninger presented the project to the Bay Area Quilt Guild. Quilters gathered on Saturday, March 26, 1994 to baste the top, batting, and backing together, while others assembled the quilting frame to hold the quilt for quilting.
On Friday, April 1, 1994, the quilt and quilting frame were brought to the University of Houston-Clear Lake and assembled in the President's Office reception room. The quilt would remain here through the end of August to be quilted by members of the Quilt Subcommittee and other distinguished guests.
After the quilting was finished in late August 1994, Darlene Staples and Judy Cloninger removed the quilt from the President's Office. The Quilt Subcommittee met at Judy Cloninger's house on September 3, 1994 for a "Closure" party, to complete the binding on the outer edge of the quilt.
