Trapunto & Quilting
Three of the four school initials were completed in time for the quilt meeting on November 6, 1993. Everyone received instructions for trapunto quilting and practiced the technique.
The committee's meeting on December 4, 1993 provided a work session where members continued appliquéing the laurel wreath leaves. Various pieces were laid out as the rough design of the quilt begins to take shape.
Mrs. Selma Neumann, wife of the founding chancellor of the University of Houston- Clear Lake, visited the Jan 8, 1994 meeting. It was at this meeting that the four UHCL trapunto panels were distributed. They had to be completed before February 10th if the quilters were to remain on schedule.
Committee members devoted the February 5th meeting to learning various quilting techniques. The trapunto panels were added to the growing number of completed pieces to be joined together for the final quilt top.
The quilt top includes the names of charter faculty, administrators and student honor societies penned in calligraphy along the inside border.
