Lunar Surface Map
Description
Lunar map showing the Moon's surface compiled from 7,000 photographs taken by the Ranger VIII's six cameras. covering over 900,000 square miles.
The three marks on the map are the impact points of Ranger VI, Ranger VII, and Ranger VIII. The Rangers were NASA's first attempt to take high-resolution photographs of Lunar surfaces. In the moments leading to and immediately before impact, the Ranger cameras would send images back from its six cameras. These images helped to plan Apollo lunar landings.
