James Martyn
Armand Bayou Nature Center sits on the land of the James Martyn Ranch. Martyn was known as the “bayou man” and was an early pioneer of the area. He grew fruits and vegetables on his farm, which was also populated with hickory trees planted by Karankawa Indians that previously inhabited the area. His homestead neighbored the James West lands along Middle Bayou.
